Music & Movement
Our sessions are lots of fun -- not only for the children, but for their parents and caregivers too!
We place an emphasis on songs and activities, which promote language development and motor skills, while learning about and appreciating music.
During the class we use a wide range of instruments such as rhythm pals, maracas, bells, drums, tambourines and many more. We also use CD's, guitar, and accompanied voices.
Where
We meet at Johnsonville Community Centre, on the corner of Frankmoore Ave and Moorefield Road in Johnsonville. Sessions are held over an eight week term (during the school term) for 30 minutes with the exception of Mini Maestros, which is 45 minutes long.

Our Program
Bouncing Babes
This is a class for non-mobile babies from 3 months - 1 year. An emphasis is placed on exposing the children to a range of different musical styles, providing the parents with simple tunes to use in everyday activities at home, giving an opportunity to get your child moving through dance, and exposure to a range of activities/exercises which stimulate muscle development and fine and gross motor coordination. The babies are continually stimulated with sounds, sights, and movement.
Creepy Crawlers
This class is for crawling babies and early walkers. This class is similar to the Bouncing Babes class, but with more movement for the children - and less carrying for the adults! We introduce a wider range of instruments, and encourage children to participate more through action songs.
Dancing Dots
This class is for confident walkers from 1 - 3 years. In this class we really require the children to take an active involvement. The sessions flow fast and are kept varied to hold very active little people's attention! We provide more of an educationally challenging environment, with songs that require the children to respond more eg. finding parts of the body, taking turns, moving and dancing independently in different ways, and using the instruments in varied ways.
Mini Maestros
This class is for 2.5 - 5 year olds. While providing the fun and stimulating environment of the Dancing Dots session, here we really begin to introduce some of the more subtle concepts of music. The children can participate in challenging activities such as folk dance, creating music to go with certain stories, learning the words, and filling the gaps in certain songs etc.
About the Tutor
Rachel Butcher writes
My name is Rachel Butcher and I am a mother of 2 beautiful children Dillon 6 years and Myilee 4 months.
I am also a very experienced Music teacher. I have taught Preschool music since I was 16 and have a passion for sharing the love of music to all! Children's brains are like sponges and I love the way music seems to soak into them.
I believe every child should have the opportunity to explore music in a fun creative environment, which is what I provide.
Music is in everything we do and children seem to hear music more often than we do!
Coming to a music class is a time to share with your little one and watch their face as they explore the world of music, and for you as a parent to give your child the opportunity to explore music with you by their side.
I am looking forward to sharing my passion of music with everyone and hope you will enjoy it too!
